Just recently I started having problems shifting into 1st gear. It doesn't seem to make any difference if the car is warm or cold and it doesn't happen all the time. Maybe 50% or less of the time and it typically happens when I've been sitting at a traffic light in neutral for a minute or two. I go to engage 1st gear and the gate/syncros are basically closed. I have to shift it into 3rd and then back to 1st.

I have just recently passed 10k miles and this has never been an issue up to this point. If I shift into first as I'm slowing to a stop it's fine. It only seems to be a problem when stationary.

Thoughts ?

Is there a problem with 2nd? What are you 'slowing/stopping' into 1st from? Spacers Maybe?

I have no problem shifting into 1st, only when I'm stopped.

When this problem occurs it does affect 2nd as well which is why I mentioned I have to shift into 3rd before going back to 1st.

I do not currently have any trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd once moving.

I remember people reporting those problems (my B5 S4 was fine) which is why I raised the question

I have no basis to believe this is the case, just "clutching" at straws!
