Guys in any form of tracking the ESP should be totally disabled, that means your two position...
ESP should be deselected to the OFF position.
If any traction control is left ON you couldn't do what the driver did in the video. Power sliding like he does won't happen with the ESP ON.

Completely off base, maybe into space :-) Seriously the car only gets fun with all the electronic...
Crap turned off and is very easy to control.
You guys have to experience this by yourselves, better yet take a high performance driving school and try it out with and instructor supervising you.
People like me and others that drive in winter conditions learn this naturally. I can't even remember when I drove my car with the ESP ON. I wish the default would be the other way.

Then Bob I'm sorry to say you are a bad driver and I mean it, no joke! :-)There is no way in Hell...
A good driver would be faster with the ESP enabled. The system would prevent you from exploiting the car's true potential especially in autocrossing!
Heck under certain conditions even with the ESP "OFF", you can feel the stability control come back and hunt you under braking (because it is never really off). Sometimes under extreme circumstances selective braking can be felt and that can undo what you are trying to do.

Jet, even the R10 uses ESP
On the CBS coverage before the Lime Rock race, McNish took us on a track preview. At one point, I perked up when he talked about the ESP kicking in at one point on the track.
Now, it probably needs it, since it is such a huge pig with that big diesel engine in the rear. Even a driver like McNish couldn't keep the rear end from coming around at the end of the front straight before Big Bend.
