Anyone run a dyno pre and post the 5k ECU remap ?
Is it like a trigger.. ie. complete step-like remap of the ECU at 5k mi ? (if it was 5k mi)
Or is it a gradual thing that is barely noticeable?
The reason I ask is because I'm at 4500mi and in a position to do a dyno before and after the 5k mark... if people are interested.
Was it at 5k mi?

Remap is a part of RS4 lore, no one knows for certain. If there is a remap, it is automatic.
But everyone reports a higher power boost somewhere after 5000 miles. And some have talked to techs, who have talked to techs in Germany, who say that the ECU is progressively programmed to only fully open up the engine after 5K miles.
No one has ever confirmed this. No one has ever done a systematic study. However, it is undeniable that dynos done at 1500 miles show much less power than done at higher mileage. And everyone feels the kick in the *** at 5500 rpm when the engine is somewhere over 5000 miles. There is definitely a huge boost when the intake manifold ram flap actuates and kicks over. There are also some interesting differences I've noticed in the oil record before and after 5000 miles. Fuel dilution is much worse after 5000 miles on all engines, and may indicate that the ECU has turned on the full fuel map.

Not that I know of.
It would be interesting to run one now, before 5K miles, and then one or several after, at 5500 and 7000 miles or so. Take a run down to EPL in Stratford and put her up on his dyno. It will take all of an hour, and he'll treat you well.
My guess is that if this is a real event, it happens at 6 213.7 miles. Why that funny number? Because it's 10,000 kilometers, and Germans think in meters.

Re: Is remap automatic or does dealer reflash ECU at 5K?
I just had my 5K done two days ago and, yes, they did reflash the ECU at this service. It's listed on the printout.
It does seem to run smoother, but I did not do a dyno. It would be interesting to run it before and after.
I hope that oil dilution is not more prominent after this reflash. Why should it be?

The reflash had nothing to do with a remap. (edited)
The reflash is across the entire Audi ECU line. There is a TSB out for the reflash to correct a potential ECU checksum error code.
Your car probably runs smoother and has more power because the ECU was reset to it's initial factory state and timing is way advanced. We found this result in dyno testing a few months ago at 11K miles.
FYI, I felt a distinct power increase at some mileage above 5000 miles, but I'll be damned if I know whether it occurred instantaneously from a remap, or progressively. That power increase comes on at 5500 rpm when the intake manifold flap actuates. There is a huge boost since I first noticed it, and that boost has remained.
My ECU was virgin until yesterday at 15K miles when they reflashed it for the checksum TSB.

I'll try to get down to EPL, but KTR in MA is closer.. and if its only M-F, I may only be able to MA
As long as the comparison runs are done on the same dyno, it shouldnt matter. We are only looking for the delta here :P
