I think that is because the RS5 would fill the slot, just as the A5 and S5 cabrios.

I agree - sure it would be nice to have four doors but the market for the RS5 is probably bigger since the 5 is so beautiful

I was disappointed at first, but when I thought about it the RS5 would make it redundant. Plus the 5 does look a little sexier. The S4 gives you plenty of performance while still giving the practicality of 4 doors. If you need the RS performance you probably don't care much about how practical the car is and won't be carrying many passengers.

Except for people like me that use their RS4 for Costco runs with their wife, 2 kids in 2 booster seats.

I can fit large amounts of bulk grocery items in that trunk.

Try doing that in an RS5

Yep, they are moving rapidly towards to homogenized mass-marketing culture of automatic driving clueless drivers, for whom interior comfort and ride softness matter above all else.

Pretty much the entire VW line is automatic, and the Audis are not far behind now.

Nice to see Acura finally breaking stereotypes and coming out with a 6 speed AWD TL, the truth is there will always some weirdos left to appreciate true sport sedans, even if not as superior as an Audi RS4 or M5.

Love the photo. I make those Costco runs myself with my two little ones.

Yeah...that's what I've heard from talking with people in the car industry. I'll tell you what...I would not have even considered the RS4 IF it came in an automatic only. Hence, that's why I've never considered getting a Merc AMG...there are other reasons too, but that's the main reason.

I don't track or race my car...so I could care less if the new automatic tranny can change gears faster than I can shift. I just enjoy having the kind of control with a manual clutch. Now, for those opting for automatic trannies b/c of traffic conditions, that's a different story.

Can very well be that they base the RS5 on the sportback, there will be a 4 door version thats a known fact, but if thats a RS4 or a RS5 I don't know..
