Audi RS4: Defeating the BMW M5 one more time

It's the kind of comparison we live for. Never mind sensible transportation; this is all about fast driving.
It's a terrifically bad idea to design a car with the weight of a V8 engine hung entirely over the front axle. It hurts weight distribution, generates a lot of polar moment of inertia, overworks the front tires and brakes, upsets ride quality and makes the steering heavier.
None of this seems to matter in the 2007 Audi RS 4. Using just such a layout, Audi has managed to out-fun the 2007 BMW M5, one of the world's most respected driver's cars. And it's done so for tens of thousands of fewer dollars."<ul><li><a href="http://www.germancarblog.com/2007/03/audi-rs4-defeating-bmw-m5-one-more-time.html">http://www.germancarblog.com/2007/03/audi-rs4-defeating-bmw-m5-one-more-time.html</a></li></ul>

Re: my S4 is stock... so what now?
that article is quite a compliment for Audi and the RS 4. in the future i'm going to have to try one of the Audi driving events so i can learn how to coax the maximum out of my car.

so "out-funning" the M5 means beating it?
that's BS. To "out-fun" is purely subjective. As an owner of both cars, I admit that the RS4 is indeed more fun to drive than the M5, but only marginally so. I get a kick out of the easy to shift 6 speed manual and to my ears, the V8 happens to sound better throughout the rev range than the V10, except maybe at above 8000 rpms. Otherwise, the M5 outperforms the RS4 in just about every category. I know this from first hand experience using both as daily drivers and from frequenting the track. The M5 is much quicker in a straight line, posts faster lap times, and is more stable during heavy braking from high speeds. Also, the M5 is more comfortable and luxurious with higher quality interior materials (albeit the interior styling is personal preference). Overall, on paper, the M5 is the better car. If you factor in subjective categories like styling and "fun to drive" then perhaps the RS4 barely gets the nod in some people's books including mine. But in no way can you call it beating the M5.
