Brake question: I was coming to a stop on Saturday and my car sounded like a garbage truck coming..
to a stop. I've heard this noise twice before and I'm already looking into replacing my pads, but what can be causing it? I have 16,000 miles on my car and take a drive on twisty mountain roads 10-15 times a year, the rest is regular street driving.
Also what pads should I be looking at for 95% street use with the occasional mountain drive?
Ferodo
Porterfield
Pagid
Carbotech
TIA

New Pads
My was squealing as well and so I had to change the fronts.
I went with Ferodo 2500 for the fronts and taped back the OEM sensors.
I am happy with the pads for the exception that they still squeak from time to time.
Apparently great for minimal track use and everyday street use. I was told thta there is no way OEM pads will hold up in hrad braking on the track.
The OEM front pads were killed when I removed them. Very easy process as it took less than an hour.

go get them checked
I had squeaky brakes and took my car in twice. The 1st time they said I still had some life in my brake pads. The second time I went in, they said my brake pads were worn out and they also wore down the rotors. So Audi wanted me to pay $1700 to fix the rotors.
I spoke to the Audi Service Manager and mentioned that we should have our brake pad sensor working in the car... it does not work. So I made Audi pay for my new set of rotors since the Audi was at fault with not fixing my pads the first time.
Due to the pads wearing out, they wore out so much that the little metal rivots destroyed the rotors.
So make sure you go get them checked. This is a know problem.

I saw your post regarding this and it's got me worried about my pads...
I met up with my tech and he said I should have a few thousand miles left, but this noise I've been hearing is scaring me.
I'm going to take care of this when I get back from FL, but you can be sure if the rotors are damaged due to the sensor not working I won't be paying for a new set out of my pocket.

Does it sound like a terrible vibration (but not vibrating)?
That's what mine are doing...scares the hell out of me. Brakes all squeak a lot. I have only 15,000km on the car (9,000 miles!).
