I know you open the hood after you get home, but what do you do when you are away (i.e., the mall)?

I only open the hood at home in the garage. It would be nice to be able to open it everywhere
but I figure a little is better than none.
Back in the day, the Porsche owners would open their motors when they got home and turn on a fan to cool the engine. That's where I got the idea.
So far the covers look like new but the car only has 8k miles on it.
Hope this helps.
