BTW, has anyone tried a K&N filter?
evidently there is one for the RS4, part #33-2209. I'm hesitant to try it because of the risk of fouling the MAF...has anyone done this mod?

MAF issues asside, the OEM airbox and oem panel filter have proven time and again to be superior
over so called aftermarket improvements on just about every late model Audi. I see no reason to waste your money confirming this.
That is ofcourse if you needed any reason beyond the fact that a oiled element is bad for the MAF.

All I can say Bob is I'm on my third 1.8T with either a K&N or AFE panel and I have NEVER had...
Any problems with a MAF sensor. I suspect the problems start occurring when people wash them and then re-oil them with too much oil.
Also you should let the filter dry up properly prior to the re-oil and let the excess oil drain from the filter prior to re-installation.
Just my $0.02.

Just put one in yesterday...
...used in every 911 I've owened w/o issues. Don't expect any problems in this application, either.
I believe K&N makes a better product than the OEM filter.
Will let you know if issues arrise...but, I suspect they won't.

Bob - not a fan of K&N or any filter that uses OIL to filter the air
1. For the very reason you mentioned MAF
2. Tests show they are not always better than OEM
3. I'd rather change my OEM more often
4. Oiling a filter is not a science it's a art

Several thoughts
1) K&N filters work well when maintained correctly.
2) If not oiled correctly, they can muck up the MAF sensor.
3) If not oiled enough, they will let the engine ingest large amounts of dirt.
4) Based on oil analysis results, the stock air filter is incredibly efficient at keeping dirt out of the engine.
5) I doubt there is a large difference in airflow with the K&N in our airbox, since it's already a low restriction design.
