Default C4S (996) vs RS4 what do you think?

just for kicks, what do you all think about the differences between the two cars. Obviously the 4 door sport sedan versus rear engine sports car. Daily driver vs track oriented? Would you take one over the other(obviously)? Right now you can get a very nice used C4S 996 versus a new RS4 and still have some change. Tell me what you think,
Thanks

Default not a big fan of the 996 in general, especially the looks...

and performance-wise, the RS4 has the edge even around some faster circuits. The 996 C4S is definitely not track-oriented as far as p-cars go. Skip.

997 C4S is a different story though. Incredibly hot car! but also incredibly high-priced

Default At this price point not much in the RS4 league

$100,000 for the new C4S just way too much. Also fit and finish of the new P-cars leaves a lot to be desired when compared to Audi. Door handles are cheap flimsy plastic both inside and out. Just one point of many let downs in the interior, The GT3 on the other hand....... Audi really has the best interiors right now overall IMHO

Default If you're talking Porsche, the base 997 is very much in the RS4's league...

...in terms of price and performance.

The base 997 has quite a bit less power and torque than the RS4, but it only weighs about 3,100lbs. Pick your options wisely and negotiate a good deal, and you'll be right at the RS4's MSRP. No AWD, but with a set of snow tires will be very capable.

Have you been inside a 997? Similar to Audi in terms of materials and fit/finish.

Default Disagree about interior, but ...

I've driven the 997 C4S. The interior did not compare, maybe its like 70% of the way there.

The 997 has a more nimble feel, but it lacks the grunt and preciseon of the RS4. The RS4 feels more solid, but the weight is also more noticeable at slower speeds, where as the 911 feels mo

Never drove a 996, so can't say.

The truth is that the other day I went on a leaf watching ride and saw no fewer than 15 911s, most of them 997s.

Default Lacks the precision of the RS4? How's that? I don't think anything can top

the steering feel and precision of a Porsche. The RS4 is an awesome car and no one will argue that but even the Cayman S felt better and more pure than the RS4 IMHO. There's just something about the feel and handling that is hard to describe. RS4 still feels a bit sterile albeit very powerful. That's just the way it is with Audi cars.

Default Only thing I'll give you is exclusivity...

...amazingly I've only seen two RS4s in Los Angeles.

Comparing base cars, the RS4 does have nicer trim; smooth leather and CF inserts that are optional (and expensive) on the 997 if that's what you like. The trim details are personal preference. My comment was in response to somebody else with regards to general materials and finish...dashboard plastics, gauges...the basics. The door handles on the two (again, in response to somebody else) are no less robust in the 997. I had an S4 for one year and have had a 997 for two, and although both have their creaks and squeaks, over time the 997 is the more solid, period.

If the C4S is your preference in the 997 line, that's great...it's the last that I'd pick, but that's why they make a dozen variations of the 997.

Default That was poorly worded on my part..

You're right, it's more precise, but it doesn't feel as sharp.

When you start trying to compare cars at this level the english language makes it hard.

The RS4 has a much sharper steering feel. The C4S feels much more versatile in its steering, more feedback, a richer sense of the road through the steering.

The RS4 provides an almost perfect blade-like feeling. You point and it follows.

Hopefully I am making sense..

The C4S is not my first choice, that would be the GT3

Default Okay I can't speak for the C4S but only the Cayman S. Night and day

difference in steering feel.
