Calling Bob, deflap master....
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/147787/19.jpg"></center><p>Hey Bob,
In the process of deflap and got stuck as I just couldn't pull out the lower airbox.
The horny part is stucked underneath the headlight.
What next?
thanks
Rex

it is a monumental struggle, grasshopper.
probably the easiest way to do it (without breaking the horn off), is to remove 2 or 3 of the bolts securing the headlight assembly, which then allows you to pull the assembly forward slightly (maybe 1/2")...that should give you enough clearance to pull the lower airbox out, but it's still a bit of a struggle. getting it back in is even more difficult, unless you remove the horn altogether (which is what I would recommend doing anyway).

perma-open, i believe. but since i live in HELL and sitting at a long light at 110...
...might draw undesirably hot engine air for longer than i'd care too, i'm staying with the flap.

i don't think that's a function of the flap.
I did some MAF logs last summer under the following conditions: 1) OEM flap, 2) deflapped, 3) deflapped and de-horned. The ambient temp was 96F. Option #3 had the best MAF values.
the biggest problem with the flap is that it has been shown to stick closed, which dramatically reduces top end power.

Got it!!!! Now, the vaccum hose atached to the horn...
I can't seem to find any detachable claps or clips that secure the hose. Do I need to just cut it?
If it cut it, I would assume I need to seal it after and zip tie it somewhere.
What's the best way to seal it to prevent leak causing engine running limp mode?

DONE AND DONE!!!
Finally, got everything out, horn, flap, etc...
sealed the vacuum with a screw, then bent and zip tie to prevent leakage. test drove for a bit, sounds good.
nothing broken, much harder than I thought, even with this forum's help and bentley manual.
thanks everyone.

So are you saying there is a noticeable increase in the desireable intake "honk"? I'd not heard
that about the de-flap. I could be convinced if that is the case espeicially since I live in the mostly cool PNW.

It sounds much more alive... THE FLAP IS A STUPID DESIGN.
Not psychological. It's really louder.
I have stock exhaust so my car is quiet to begin with.
I don't see why not regardless of where you live. When the car is moving, there are is cold air coming from the front going into the intake. All those sucking hot air worries are all BS.
It may only be a concern if you are in bumper to bumper traffic day in and day out.
