Default Carbon buildup symptoms

Hey guys - I've STFA and haven't really seen anything that resembles my issues. The most notable possible symptom is when I'm pushing it hard (engine at operating temp) at high revs, shift and pedal down there's no power for a second or two, then the power kicks in. This doesn't happen all that often. The other thing is it runs just a little rough at start up for about 8-10 seconds then is fine. I also can't help but feel that it shouuld be a little more powerful then it is. Thats tough to gauge tho. I'm second owner, CPO warranty with 47k on it. The dealer had no record of a carbon clean being done.

Whatdya think?
Thanks
Tim

I've not heard that symptom related to carbon buildup. Your symptom is often ESP-related though. In other words, after a full power gear change, the car (not the driver) senses that the tires are spinning so the traction control momentary cuts power.

I did have about 45-50k of carbon create issues with my ESP but it certainly triggered a CEL

I am going from memory here:

There has been at least one 'cold start missfire' RVU (required vehicle upgrade, forgive me if I am not citing this correctly), which may partially explain the roughness. I would ask the dealer to run your car against the TSB and RVU list to ensure that it was up to date. My recollection is that with RVUs, unless there is a specific complaint they are simply worked into the periodic maintenance visits.

For reference, after we pulled the manifolds at 100,000, which we did for fun since I had no symptoms, I had to press a bit with my two favorite techs, since they both said it wasn't needed. On my dime I had them perform the decarb, which is the only one performed on this car. I figured the car has been very good to me, and it wouldn't hurt to have that on the record when it came time to sell. Still getting ~22-23 on trips at 73mph, which has always been the case.
