carbon fiber trim - real or plastic?
so i'm taking a co-worker to lunch yesterday and it's the first time he's been in the rs4. first thing he says is "nice fake carbon fiber". i didn't know how to respond, so i'll put it to the board...

Definitely the real thing. I wonder why your friend would even say that...or how he came up with that conclusion?

Either he was joking/testing you, or he's not really your friend. They're real, and real expensive. I don't know the price of interior CF, but the dealer replaced the two CF pieces under the hood due to yellowing and they retail for $420 each.

Wow...they replaced it for no charge. If they replaced it for no charge, I am assuming then that it's not normal for the CF pieced to yellow, right?

It's the clear polyester that yellows from heat and UV exposure. It happens on furniture too. Nowadays, they are getting better results from polyurethane, but I am not sure if that can be used in extreme heat conditions like an engine bay.

The interior CF is real but overlayed on ABS plastic. So it's obviously with no lightweight function.
If you look at it in direct sunlight anyone can tell its real.

Thanks for the clarification. I guessed I should've known that.
