clutch pedal question

clutch pedal question
My clutch pedal is beginning to annoy me, and I am not sure if it's always behaved this way. The first inch of travel is floppy, then there is a sudden increase in resistance to firm. New for sure is a creaking sound on engagement as if the thing is loose. Am I too sensitive?

i just started to get squeeking sound about a month ago...
took it to dealer who immediately diagnosed the issue as a bad master cylinder issue. they replaced that, but it did nothing for the squeek. the squeek sounds like a bed with rusty springs. it is so annoying. i am trying to figure out if it is just a noise or something worse. i guess i am going back to the dealer.

Same noise here, it's internal...
I had the hush panel off (the panel below the steering wheel) and the noise is not there, it's under the car. With the car on a lift and mrs. elevens pushing the clutch pedal in/out, I was underneath. The squeak is coming from inside the bell housing. It's either the slave cylinder, the throwout bearing actuator arm pivot/spring, or the clutch. All of those require some serious and heavy disassembly to get access. Warranty issue.

yah ... believe it or not that's the only part listed on my slip after repair.
It also goes on to say per tech line 8266 WA03
Maybe its a number of a TSB or something.

It's the throwout bearing actuator arm/pivot sprint, like elevens said. Both my M5 and STi had it.
You'll be able to hear it especially when the car is against a wall with the engine off. It won't make the noise when cold, but it will when warm. The 'master M-Tech' for my E39 told me that it was a 'mechanical noise' and completely normal. As a goodwill gesture they replaced the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, lubed the linkage, and just about everything else. The noise went away...for 6 months and then it came back exactly like before. For the Subaru they lubed the throwout bearing, got some oil on the clutch fiber, which made it slip, so they had to replace it. Still made the noise.
So - as you can see, it's a crap-shoot whether or not it'll really fix the problem. How loud is it? Can you hear it when you're at a light, windows down, with a car next to you as you shift into first? That's when I first heard it on the M5 and it drove me batty - until I realized that yanking the transmission in and out to fix a squeak was probably causing more damage to the car than the noise to my ears.
