Clutch pressure plate getting replaced next week - interested in advice...
I've posted a couple of times on this, but very brief re-cap is: over a period of time, it gradually became hard, then impossible, to shift into 1st (2nd & reverse also) at standstill, unless first clearing the 1/2 gate by a shift into 3 or 4.
First diagnosis was clutch hose (mine's a launch vehicle with this known problem). Dealer replaced and it seemed better for a while (maybe a week), but then as bad as before...weird There are no hydraulic leaks, so now diagnosis is pressure plate.
So my question: Dealer says pressure plate and clutch disk are not a matched pair, so at this point they are only planning to replace pressure plate - unless they find damage to disk, of course. Latter is $220 part. Car has 10K miles on it. Should I go ahead and pay for part myself and have them install new one anyway?
I plan to keep the RS4 until at least 60K - 70K miles and figure this could save a $2000 clutch replacement toward the end of my ownership.
Thoughts?

not understanding...clutch hose isn't the issue...
$3,000 for extended warranty vs $220 for clutch disk now?....not worried about other reliability issues for a year or so beyond factory warranty. Just asking, does it make sense to replace all the wearable parts here right now while they have the transmission apart?

If they're in there replacing the pressure plate, I'd pay the $220 and have the disk replaced too. It's a consumable component and it's cheap insurance.

I would look into UPGRADING the clutch... I remember some "Clutch Pool" posted somewhere and 30K was
was what most posters thought the expected life would be... I did not "take any squares" but saw the ones I wanted... I'd rather loose money buying a clutch at a much later date.
I'd replace any wear items that are-going to cause problem$ later.
Why would the clutch hose not be considered an issue?
