Good to know. Was removal of 3M a pain?

Default Do it - long repsonse

I don't want to get into a war about which brand is best. I think it is a personal opinion. I do strongly believe that the installer is key. Someone who knows what they are doing.
I originally put 3M on my 360. It was worth every $. I had someone try to cut through a parking lot and scrape the front bumper (of course they ran). I was convinced that I was going to be out a new bumper but once the 3M was peeled off the paint underneath was perfect.
I did the whole front of the RS4. That came as a precut kit. However it still requires a high degree of "fiddling" to fit because of mapping 2D onto a 3D surface. I also have the lights done (Again saved me a fortune on the 360 when a rock hit a light). I also have the rocker panels covered as they appear so vulnerable. This was a custom job - their does not appear to be a precut kit. I am very happy with the result on both cars. The parts I did on the RS4 make it impossible to tell that there is even a cover on it. I thought I had posted a picture previously. If I can find it I will repost it. You can take it off. It is not a 30 second job (it is supposed to stay on) but a good installer can take it off with no impact to the underlying paint surface.
Having got it installed I don't fret about gravel dings or bug splat. It comes off pretty easy and, in the worst case. All I am going to have to do is peel off the cover. You treat it just like paint - when washing and waxing, the only pain is there is a tiny line at the join that you have to pay special attention to when waxing. The cost depends on what you do but the front, lights and custom rocker work cost me around $1100.

I have Ventureshield too. It's been a year now. Still looks good. Just wash/wax it like normal.

I was initially reluctant. The key is finding a shop that really does it a lot and knows their stuff. It's nearly seamless on my black RS4.

Default But, 3M looks the same for years, venture can yellow or get a filmy (not as clear) look...

I've seen both products tested on the same car at the same time and I agree the 3M isn't as clear at installation, but it always looks the same. The same can't be said about venture.

Default Its Worth It

I paid $600 from the dealer to have it installed prior to pickup (Phantom Bl). I had the 3M installed on the entire front bumper and approx the lower 1/3 of the hood. They did a great job (installer may be more important than film vendor). Unfortunately, I just took a rock last week to the hood that hit about 6" above where my clear bra stopped. It left a nice 1.5 mm chip in my paint and a small chip in the windshield. I took another one on the way to the dealer for DRC inspection today - another 1 mm chip at the window/roof interface. Would I still get a clear bra? Yes, but realize that unless you do more than I (full hood, etc) there is still quite a bit of vulnerability.

Default Thanks for all the responses. I'll be putting one of these on next week.

Also doing the DuPont interior sealant. I've got the silver interior which look great with the Phantom Black imo, but show dirt.
