Default Dang remote(s) quit working

So the first remote stopped working about six months ago and now the other one died. The red light on the remote works when you push a button, but the car does not respond. I changed both batteries and did the reset procedure on page 63 in the manual but still no-worky. Anybody have a cure, or is it time to schedule a visit to the stealership?

Default I think your supposed to put the key in the door key hole

and then press lock or unlock, thats how you reprogram the keys.

Default You sure it's not the car battery?

The first time it happened, it could be the remote battery. This time around it could be the car battery. Just a thought.

It happened again! This time, Google and VAG-COM to the rescue.

SELECT
46-Central Conv.
Adaptation
Channel 21
Read

This will display the number of currently stored remotes in "Stored Value".

Enter your total number of keys up to a maximum of 4(including any existing keys) in "New Value"

[Test]

Verify that the number in "Test Value" is correct.

[Save]
Then press and hold (for at least one second) the UNLOCK button on the fob, at which time it will be learned. If you're programming more than one fob press and hold the UNLOCK button on the second fob for one second, press and hold the UNLOCK button on the third fob for one second, etc. You have a total of 15 seconds to do them all.

The first time, I entered "1". This fixed the bad one and made the good one inoperative. The next time through, I entered "2" and the both work perfectly now.
