Default Detailed update on my RS4's servicing...

Thought I'd update you on the status of my RS4 (bless it's beautiful soul)...

As you know I brought it in last Friday to be looked at because the EPC and MIL light went on during two seperate ocassions. Despite the indicators not staying on once the engine was restarted, I thought it best to bring it in.

Friday afternoon I got the call that the computer believes that there were problems with the intake runner, intake runner sensor and the oxygen sensor.

My service rep told me that he would be expecting Audi to send a product specialist to work with their RS techs on my car.

Today I got a call very early that Audi had gotten back to them and would be sending a product specialist either tomorrow or Wednesday.

I then made sure to have 3 bottles of 2nd Label, year 2000 bordaux messengered over to my service rep, one for him and the other two bottles for the two RS techs. I included detailed thank you notes explaining how passionate I am about my car and how much I appreciate the great work they have done and will no doubt be doing to complete its repair.

I got a call an hour later with a thanks for the wine, and a karmic surprise. The specialist from Audi had shown up a day early and was already at work diagnosing the car with the dealer's RS techs.

My service rep said that he'd get back to me tomorrow on their progress. Before long however, he was calling me back to let me know they had figured out that the intake runners definitely can be easily fixed on their end without a replacement part. They just needed to make an adjustment to one of the flaps which was not closing properly.

As far as the oxygen sensor, it was borderline functioning. Apparently there are 4 of them in this car and one of mine is having some issues.

My rep said I could take the car home if I wanted in the meantime, because he has "red ordered" the replacement part from Germany, and it may take up to 7-10 business days to arrive. He advised me to leave it there but it was up to me. So I decided to leave my car there, where it will be kept inside (and out of the sun), and on the lift up in the air away from prying hands, until the replacement sensor comes.

He said its possible it gets here sooner, there's just no way to know, it will be coming from the factory because there are none of these parts lying around.

So all in all I am so far very satisfied with the work being done. Obviously I'd like to have my baby back sooner, but its good knowing its in good hands.

I suppose if I break down tomorrow I could go and get it, but I have to be strong. Afterall, as soon as the parts come in again I will have to bring it back and I think its better not to have the car taken apart twice if it can be avoided. The less times the better in my view.

I'll keep you all posted on the developments.

And btw, the Audi specialist who showd up today to check my car told my rep that the RS4 has seen very very few problems so far and that the ones that have had issues have all had weird issues like mine. I guess these are much better issues to have than engine trouble.

These sound like pretty minor annoyances that take up time, but don't seem to indicate the car is going to have performance problems. Let's keep our fingers crossed

You should contact Audi and tell them you want at least the 1st month payment reimbursed.

Default If I get the car back this friday it will only have been one week. Still think I should insist on...

a full month?

Default I would say yes and here's why...

the car has how many miles? You basically JUST bought it and it's already been in the shop and you really have no idea when the car will be fixed and if the "fix" will work.

At a minimum I would want 1/2 my monthly note but would tell them I wanted an entire month and work down from there.

Default I hear you..

I have to think somewhat positively though. We are talking about oxygen sensors here, not engine problems. If the car had engine problems I would probably raising 10x the hell. But oxygen sensors are not that big a deal to replace and intake flaps are also pretty trivial.

I just don't want to have a negative attitude about the fix. I really want to think that its going to work.

That said, I will press hard through AoA for at minimum 1/2 the payment.

But I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Right now I just want the car to be fixed and back in my hands.

Default You were smart to butter them up. Wait until you have the car back to ask AOA

for something. I don't know if I would, but that's me. You may never have another problem with the car. If I had repeated problems then I would demand something. I think you have had a great attitude about the whole thing. I don't know that I could have brought myself to send three bottles of wine until I had the car back and it was working fine.

Glad it worked out, but "very few problems so far" sounds a bit premature.
