Although, not all microfiber towels are created the same...
...in my experience, the ones at the bulk shops have some type of polyester blend that leaves very faint swirl marks on the clearcoat (more visible on dark colored paint). It's worth spending the extra cash on the higher-end stuff (ones intended for polishing v. wax removal) available at DD, Griot's, etc.
Unless, of course, you don't plan on using these on your paint (or just don't care).
Just a thought.

I use both...
the waffle-weave microfiber towels for my black paint and Sam's/Costco microfiber towels for the interior and most other things around the house. The Sam's/Costco towels are so cheap, I sometimes use them as disposable. Either Sam's or Costco has slightly better towels (blue > yellow) but I can't remember which it is and it probably varies depending on the suppliers.

swirls? water swirls or swirls in the clearcoat?...
i can't imagine swirls into the clear coat, even using just a terry cloth towel...unless some grit left over after the wash, or in a towel.
in buying a new car a couple months ago, it still had all the white plastic wrap on exterior, and hadn't been prepped(wash or waxed) at all since arriving from factory. i insisted they didn't even wash it when taking delivery, and did when i got home. paint is entirely swirl free, nada. nice to start out that way.

Sparkhill, have you noticed
more lint over time with the microfiber towels?
i wash them in between uses, and being as clingy as they are, they seem to pick up lint in the dryer. which is then distributed on the car after wiping down.
i get another clean terry towel and just loosely wipe down a final time to get rid of lint on the car.

Yes, but it is less since I started washing the towels with other microfiber towels
The blue (Costco?) towels have a lot less lint. One load went through with a paper towel and they were relegated to shop rag status as the paper towel lint seems to only come out when I wipe something dark. If your new car is going to be a dark color, investing in a couple of the high quality waffle-weave drying towels is worth the money.
