Does anyone have any great winter tire and wheel recommendations?
I guess this question is in the spirit of summers' end. For those of you residing in warmer climates with pot-hole free roads, I am jealous! But, then again, you're probably not reading this.
Thanks in advance.

I used Dunlop Winter Sport II tires on stock wheels last winter and in hardpacked snow the car
tracked like it was on rails. One of the people on this forum has an Audi dealer that sells wheels at much below the price I paid my dealer for stock RS4 wheels. Think it was Evil Buddha, but not sure. I don't think one needs go to down to 18's for winter tires. If Nokian had 19's, I would have gotten them, maybe they do by now, so it would be worth checking, as Nokian winter tires are the best.

It depends on what your looking for...
For V rated winter tires I would go with:
Dunlop Wintersport 3D's
Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25's
If you want more dedicated winter Nokian's are great.
As for wheel's some are using the stock 19's and others 18's. Tirerack should have something or try Hartmann Wheels.

If you do limited winter driving, then Pilot Sport A/S on the stock rims work well
They work well in coastal RI, where we are not inundated with snow, except occasionally. At those times, I just limit my driving.

I have used both of these and recommend them highly. BTW, they tied
in the notorious TireRack ice testing (they use a hockey rink). Ice traction is meaningful in Central New York. Will probably go with Wintersports on stock wheels (but titanium) this winter.
No experience with Nokians.

Dunlop Wintersports are great..some advice on 18" vs 19"
On my previous S4, I had gone from the 18" to 17" with Blizzak WS-50, they are a real winter "studless" tire, as i was driving upto VT and Maine often. The tires were awesome, and I once embarrassed my brother in law in his landrover defender, albeit with only all seasons.
Last winter, I had both a 4 wheel drive truck and the RS4, so I went with Hartmann 19" replica rims with TPMS and 19" Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds.
They looked gerat. No difference in appearance from the replica rims. However, I did bend two rims on potholes in NYC with them. In the snow they were very good. however, nothing in comparison to the narrower blizzaks. I did take them up to 120 with no problem, and very good handling. The blizzaks were definitely had a little more role to them around the corners. But at 80mph were fine on the highway with very little increase in noise.
If I were to do it again??I think I would get the original rims from Audi, they are not that expensive, and would go with the 3Ds...although in an 18inch tire. I might even go with theRS6 rims 18" with the 3Ds.
By the way, one weekend I had my truck out on I95, in 4WD with all seasons, black ice head-on into a concrete Jersey barrier. That one hurt a little, and totalled a brand new truck!! I think the audi would have handled it much better.....the light end of the Tacoma and all....
