I am asking this forum, because I love your cars and it seems from reading your postings, that most of your have a clue about high end automobiles. Thanks! ps...my wheels are nothing but respect for your cars...I love the design!!!

I am going to guess that it could be an unreliable gas guzzling car.

Default My best friend got a 2008 Range Rover Sport HSE on the 2nd day, it needed a new steering column bc..

of a horrible noise. I'm not sure if theyre reliable, but I LOVE the way they look.

Default Looks great and has nice presence - for people that never owned Land Rover...

it's tempting to own one; but, avoid it - get a used MB G500, Lexus LX470, or Landcruiser.

I've have (had) Land Rover, LX, and Landcruiser; my good friend has a 2006 G500, no issues yet.

Oh, read some post from people that have owned them - they sell them asap after "honeymoon" is over.

Default I have 2006 S/C (HSE)...

It's just called the Range Rover S/C, but sometimes people confuse the nomenclature for a Sport which it is not. Overall, a very nice vehicle. My wife is the primary driver.

Pros: good power, decent handling, good looks, more masculine than many other SUV's, true off-road abilities (not that I ever use them), comfortable seats, near first-class interior, better mileage than our Lexus GX 470.

Cons: worries about reliability (but so far so good), ****ty local dealer (not that my Audi dealer is perfect), the few remaining plastic bits in the cockpit do not fit with the full leather dash, usually gets more attention than my RS4.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it but I won't own it out of warranty. If you get a used one make sure you get a really good extended warranty becasue repairs can be outrageous. There were some reliability issues addressed somewhere around 2003 or 2004, so make sure you look into that issue. It beats the Lexus GX 470 hands down. FWIW, we will probably but a Mercedes GL next go around.

The Range Rover forum is a pretty good resource.

Range Rover Forum

If honeymoon = warranty, then you are very correct.

Default hasn't their reliability improved since British ownership days?

i have read that it has, particularly electrical and engine areas. the biggest gripe now seems that they are very heavy and underpowered(for the weight).

I think BMW ownership helped, I'm not sure what Ford ownership will do

Default well, Ford's owned them since 1999 at least, IIRC

but they did benefit from BMW, in their new model direction. and then ford kind of ran with it.

you do know that Ford is shopping Land Rover for sale, right? it's a foregone conclusion, that and Jaguar. just waiting for the right buyer/bid.
