engine coolant
Looking under the hood today and saw that I'm a little low on engine coolant (when car was cool the fluid line was at or a little below min). Forget the fact that the car is basically brand new with only 1300 miles. Other than an Audi dealership where can I go to top it off?

Re: engine coolant
just make sure you use only VAG G12 coolant(pink). I just get a spare bottle from the dealer to have around for occasional topping off.

Re: engine coolant
is strange to be a little low on coolant with only 1300 miles on the car?

no, it's perfectly normal
you'll see some new at the lot with level lower thsn others. It depends on how full they top it off at the port or during PDI...or if they even bother at all.
Mine was the same way, slightly below the MIN mark cold. I just top it off to the min mark(or very slightly above) when cold and it's fine. 6 months later, I'm doing the same thing. Some is lost to evaporation over time, even with a sealed system. What car's coolant level doesn't drop over time? |
...
mine was an S4 though, but same difference.

Re: no, it's perfectly normal
thanks for the tip. I'll stop the dealership tomorrow.

one more thing...
don't overfill it. You probably know this, but just a thought, since it's a sealed system and there's no pressure relief, other than in the form of a leak somewhere.
I forget exactly what the owners manual says about the MIN and MAX lines. When mine was hot, it would be somewhere within the MIN-MAX area, IIRC. I wouldn't want it getting above the MAX area, even hot. |
Re: one more thing...
I was reading the manual today and it said something like you'd want the fluid to be slightly above the max line when hot and inbetween the min -max when cold. But thanks...

Sorry...
if I gave you bad info on that. I was going by memory, as I don't have a manual handy...or an Audi either : )
