Default Euro Steering Wheel?

Are U.S. owners able to order the Euro steering wheel after the fact and have it dealer installed?

Default Yes, but.....

There is no US airbag that is confirmed to work with the Euro wheel. Many are using an A8 airbag, but no ones knows for sure what would happen if it ever went off (timing etc). Others are using the RS4 Euro Airbag, but again no one really knows what will happen if it goes off.

Default And the dealer will not install it.

But it sounds like a pretty easy DIY project.

Default I would be very wary of using an air bag from a differnt chassis as the crash charicteristics would

be different between a B7 and a D3. I would imagine there would be a difference engineered between the two.

Default The euro air bag was designed for this car and the Euro wheel so I...

have every confidence that it will work correctly in the event of a crash. Contact Alex at Europrice for the wheel and proper airbag. He even sends complete installation instructions including the necessary Vag-Com programming changes. The installation takes about 15-30 minutes and the programming changes takes about 5 minutes. Not only does this wheel look proper in the RS4 it is 20mm smaller in diameter and is much more ergonomic. It really does change the driving experience of this car. Alex's email address is: www.contact@euro-audi-parts.com

I would agree, but that doesn't mean the euro RS4 one is any better

Default How do you know 100% it's the proper airbag? B/c Europrice said so?...

I agree it is likely that the Euro RS4 airbag is the proper airbag, but no one knows for sure and won't unless someone wants to do some crash tests.

A future plan of mine is to try to get the face of the rs4 wheel airbag off and swap it onto the stock airbag, this way i know I have the right airbag :-)

Default Disagree.... the D3 one would be far more dangerous in the B7 since the airbags

are designed to the chassis. The airbags are discharged at differnt stages and forces depending on the chassis since the differences in chassis will absorb/transfer impacts differently especially with one being steel and one being aluminum. Big differences there. IMO, with something like an air bag I would not mix and match chassis.

Default I agreed with you. All I said is that there is no proof that the Euro RS4 one is any better...

it makes sense that it would be the correct airbag, but since we don't know for sure how can you say it is safer without any proof?

Does Europrice guarantee that it's the proper airbag, or just guess based on experience?

The best airbag would be the one that came with the car and that's why I'm planning on trying to swap the airbag covers, this way I have my stock airbag with the Euro wheel :-)
