Default Euro steering wheel install question

Okay.....so if I install the euro wheel and can't recode it immediately, will the normal radio/phone/s-button, car computer functions all still work as before, or will they go whacko on me.

I did not recode immediately and everything worked okay for me. Keep in mind that I never got my phone to pair, so for me everything was the 'S' button and radio/nav functions.

BTW, I am having the hardest time getting the wheel to be on perfectly straight. It is about 5 degrees off. So annoying. Let me know if you have any tricks to get it dead straight.

Yes all of the old controls will still work. The only time they will start being a problem is after you recode and get the S button and VDO buttons set to the wheel.

Getting the wheel straight is a pain once it's off by a little. Trial and error is really the only way. Once you have it on the way you like it, mark the point on the car so you won't have the problem again.

So are you saying that if I recode immediately, I won't have issues with the other functions?

Or are you saying that no matter when I recode, I will start havng problems with the other functions? What problems will I have? I didn't know this was an issue.

I think he means once you recode the Sport button on dash and stalk controls will no longer work. I did not recode till later on in the day and had no problems. Only issues you will have is the key fob not working and traction control light will come on. That light goes off after driving a few minutes. Use both keys in ignition and they will reset.

I had mine re-coded after a week, no issues. The S button was working (from the dash), however didn't really use my phone to know if that may have been thrown off.

And as Fluffhead said, proper centering is key and may be a PITA. Even if you align the center mark, it can (and probably will) be slightly off. I had to use 2 notches to the right, however a month later I went to the dealer who did a 4-wheel alignment and took off the steering wheel to make sure the center marks match and align the car based on it.

Still not able to get it just right. Its barely off center, pulling to the right, I take the wheel off and move it just one notch. And then it pulls to the left (if I hold the steering wheel straight). I must have done this 25 times in the past couple of weeks. So frustrating!

If you get a 4-wheel alignment they'll do it just right for you. Ended up doing that myself...
