Default Ferodo DS2500 and Castrol SRF brake fluid

Welp, after being at Watkins Glen last month and experiencing brake fade big time, I decided that the car needs some better front brake pads and fluid.

I purchased two sets of pads from Zeckhausen Racing for $367.44, including shipping. 2L of the Castrol SRF was ordered from Pegasus Auto Racing for $183.96 with shipping. (Expensive stuff, but the highest wet and dry boiling point of any fluid.)

Yesterday I had my shop change the pads, flush and replace the fluid. (Even the clutch hydraulics get this nice fluid!) My service tech was even kind enough to add wear sensors, which are not included with the Ferodo pads. $262.38 for brake fluid flush and pad replacement.

Total cost $813.78

First impressions. The brakes do not fade, even after 10 repeated high speed breaking events to bed the brakes. When the pads are cool, stopping power is about equal to the stock pads, but the initial bite is much sooner, yet more gradual. Once the pads and rotors are warmed up with a few high speed applications, Wow! It's a totally different set of brakes. Stopping power is amazing compared to stock, and modulation is much better. I can literally feather the breaks in and out of ABS quite easily.

With only a day of driving on the pads, I really can't say much about brake dust yet. So far they don't look too much worse than stock.

As for squealing, there is a bit when the rotor is cold, when I'm coming to a slow rolling stop, as I just lift up on the brakes, but it is very minor. Even the stock pads would squeal from time to time. A few fast applications of the brakes and it goes away.

So far I am satisfied. Friday I'll be running on them at Lime Rock. We'll see how they do there. My guess is that they will be much more capable than this driver.

FYI The Ferodo part number is FCP1664H
The Zeckhausen racing part number 63-360-1029 Brembo GT8

I'm surprised they did not suggest the 3000.

I'm surprised you did not spring to run different pads for the street and the track

Default He did.

Dave Zeckhausen did recommend DS3000 pads if I wanted to run them only for racing. At this point I'm not an accomplished driver, so I opted to run with a good compromise pad that I could run on the track and the street. Honestly, I didn't want to mess with keeping two sets of pads, and changing them every time I track the car. If I out drive these pads this summer, I'll do that next year.

At least with the DS2500 I get a better pad than stock for the track, and good street performance.

Default May favorite pad for street and track.

Watch the dust after Lime Rock, mine is biting into the wheel a little.

Default There are no 2500 rears that I could find

I'm going to keep the stocks on. There's hardly any wear.

Default OK. I use the 2500 for the street front and rear but when I track switch to the 3000 in the front...

It's very easy with the Alcons and it was equally easy with the Porsche/Brembo calipers.

I would think the Brembos on the RS4 would be easy too. Maybe you should call STaSIS and see if the 2500s are available for the rear on the RS4.
