This alone was worth the move...Pines to Palms Highway. 48 miles of twisties through 4k feet of elevation change.

That road is fantastic! Another fun run. Take hwy 76 east off the 15 south of Temecula.
It meets up with hwy 79 south which takes you to a quaint town in the mtns called Julian. Continue south on 79 to the 8. The road dips and swoops. Take 8 east along the Mexican border. Make a slight detour and vist the train museum at Campo. Then take Imperial Hwy (also called Sweeney Pass Rd) north. This road has some great vistas along the foothills of the mtns. Eventually it crosses hwy 78. 78 has a great climb back into Julian. You can also keep going on Sweeney/Imperial, and cut back over onto 79. Salton Sea not far from there either.

More times than I can count - bike and car. On weekends too many cops and wannabe racers IMHO.
Used to be that Pear Blossom hwy was good for speed runs, but cops got touchy about that. Out in that direction, the roads around Wrightwood aren't bad. Bouquet Canyon is nice. Yerba Buena rd near Malibu and leading to Mulholland 18 miles later is a corker - although a bit rough in spots - which keeps away the bikers. Back road to Big Bear is kind of fun.
