Default Finished my oil change

1. There was one bolt to one of the brake ducts that I could not get to catch - leaving it on since it is held in with a rubber washer. I spent several hours taking the pan on and off trying to get all the bolt s to work. It was the brake duct bolts and this was the one time I got all but one to work - and funny thing is I was able to get this one to catch the previous attempt. I am sure if I removed the rubber washer I could use a small screw driver to align things and get it to catch - oh well - I guess I will let Audi do it at the 5K service time.
2. Cut a hole in the belly pan for the next oil drain that I do - will not have to take the pan off next time.

Default I've thought about cutting out a hinged trap door for the drain plug.

But it's not original - I stole the idea from BMW.

Default Must be a pretty big hole to allow for both full and near empty oil flow?

It would suck to have to take off the pan just to clean up spillage.
Probably messed up your undercar aerodynamics and voided any bellypan warranties

Default Yeah it's kind of big for that reason - I did not want it dripping on the belly pan

but the aero is kind of messed up down there anyway with the brake ducting and other cross members.

I might find a way to plug it when not in use

Default

I think I read about you saying that - and that is where I got my idea

Default I was thinking of installing one of those oil drain valves, which I think would permit a smaller

hole. Although I don't think installing a valve with a nipple, which would permit attachment of tubing to lead the oil away, would be a good idea because of the low ground clearance.

valve

Default Those brake duct bolts are a b*tch.

My problem was when I tried to hold the brake duct down against the bellypan from the inside of the duct to get the screw to catch, the bottom half of the duct would detach from the top half which holds the threads. I think next time I will either glue the two halves together, or zip tie around them.

Default I took out the rubber washers, so the bolts aren't captured anymore...

Then you can line them up easily while putting the panel back on.

Default If the drain was on the side of the engine - then I'd be first in line - bu on the bottom

it is too exposed to be knocked off by a curb or rock.

Default I don't think it would extend below the plane of the belly pan (I'll let you know if I try it), so

it should be protected against smaller debris. So you'd have to drive over something fairly large (the kind of things I try hard to avoid) to break it off. But your point is valid--greater chance of engine damage after hitting said curb or large rock.
