Formatting an SD card...
 

The manual says to have the sd cards formatted in FAT or FAT32 format before using them. I purchased a 512mb SD card, and a Dane-Elec reader/writer. I installed the unit on my PC, but the insrtuctions say that the SD card must be formatted before use!!!! What to do?

stick the card in the reader
 

open "my computer" and find the location of the card. right click on it and select format. select FAT or FAT32 - either one works - give the card a name if you want and follow the directions from there.

Future reference: FAT has a 2GB limitation, so use FAT32 for 4GB cards. Either FAT or FAT32 is fine for 2GB and smaller cards.
