Fun with a new M5
Had my first run in with a new M5 tonight. Woa, those things are fast for a big 4 door - guess they probably weight similar to the RS4.
Anyhow, I am somewhat shocked to say on a straight the M5 has more muscle and does pull on the RS4. I worked my poor baby hard and the M5 was much stronger.
Where the RS4 can make this up is with what appears to be better braking (go deeper into corners before braking) and generally better corning abiltiies allowing you to carry more speed.
We made a nice run down a twisty canyon drive and on the straights he's pull, but I'd close the gap to zero going into corners and have maybe 3 car lengths on him exiting the twisties (I was on the outside, if I had the inside line it would be more) only to have him pull on me in the 1/8th km straight to the next twisty. We did this for maybe 5 minutes and he wasn't getting faster in the twisties, and my brakes were doing a good job slowing the lead sled without fade. Out of the last twist onto a long straight he got on it and pulled away - nothing the RS4 could do to keep up.
We need the RS4+ now, or to find a couple hundred pounds to toss out of the car....
