The S would not be a step up from the RS4, really. I'm on the same boat considering a 911, except that I will keep the RS4 but replace my convertible with may be the 07-09 911 Turbo. When you drive it the Turbo does feel it has more going on than the RS4.

Default Not an improvement

I drove the 997S, just this past week. Very nice car. Although it may be a few tenth's faster (depending on source of data), it is a huge step down in livability from the RS4.

Yes, although it is more livable than the prior 911 I drove (993), it is rough. The infotainment system, although improved for 09, is still crude. Even the I-drive in the new M3 is superior.

The engine sound is a wonderful thing, that whole "angry metal" sound that Porsches are known for. The back seat is an upholstered package shelf, nothing more. Trunk is useless. Ride is vastly improved when not in sport mode. I was truly impressed. It is a significant evolution of the 911 platform.

I am in the market for a new car, as Audi and I are discussing resolution of my RS4 issues. Although I considered it, I don't plan to get a 997S.

As a second car, yes. The 997 is a sweet ride. As a second car, I might actually consider more of a "toy" car, like a Z4M, Lotus or Boxster S. Save a few $$$ and cars that are a hoot when the sun is up and air is warm.

I am in a place in my life where I need a "one car" solution. When I make a final decision and when my issues with Audi of America are resolved, I will post again.

Default Buyback

Still underway. I retrieved all of my personal property from my RS4 last week. Sad, looking at the car as I walked away. I really liked that car, when it ran right. Mine just ran right very infrequently.

Audi and I are having productive discussions to resolve my issue with this vehicle. They are obviously reluctant, but are cooperative and polite.

I will post when those are complete.
