Default I've been reading a lot of stuff on their forum......

While that gearbox is cool it is definately a weak link in the thing. I also heard what a brake job on those things run too. It may have a "low" price in terms of its performance, but the maintenance costs are boardering the realm of the Itallian boys.

Default A few things I get a chuckle out of:

Many people seem to confuse Borg Warner (maker of the Nissan and some Audi transmissions) and Ricardo (maker of Veyron transmission). The Veyron trans costs $25K before installation. This is not dealer parts dept cost - manufacturer cost.

VDC appears to not only to contain traction control and stability control, but also makes extra cuts to power during shifts to reduce trans strain and can even cut back engine power if internal trans temps climb too high. Turning it off, cancels all these safeties. The manual clearly states in bold letters that you should only turn it off when stuck in snow or mud.

Nissan makes no mention of LC in their literature, and it appears that 0-60 times were achieved w/o using it. I'm not sure why they have it at all, but hey. You need to turn off VDC and adjust other controls to engage launch control. So it's not something you would do accidently.

It appears that most cars that have trans problems have used LC a number of times. It also appears they are often modified to make more power. This is just what I've gleaned in a hour of going through the website. Could be wrong.

It appears the trans could be a weak link if used in any way outside what Nissan indicates.

Default Nissan does seem to condone LC sometimes, though.

Check out 6:18 of this video linked in that thread. The gentleman speaking is John Weiner, Nissan's director of product planning.
