Default Guys with exhausts - is it too loud on trips?

I wanted an exhaust until making a 140-mile (round) trip with my family (me + 3 passengers). The extra weight in my car, combined with lots of full-throttle passing on 2-lane country roads and defeated muffler flaps resulted in noise that became rather fatiguing and tiresome. As soon as I got home I hooked the vacuum tubes back up to the muffler valves.

Noise around town is fun, but on extended trips does doesn't that noise get old?

Default That's why I had the Kooks exhaust made modular...

For road trips I plan on putting the stock mufflers back on the car.

True, IF you can live with the remapped throttle curve w/ Sporty.

Default haven't driven further than 20 miles in one shot since installation.

do you think removing the intake flap might be the bigger culprit? the magnaflow is actually quieter than stock unless you're behind the car, and from the cabin it's about the same as stock until you get on the throttle. much different tone, but not much more volume.

Default that's right, he removed the air intake flap

would definitely be a potential source of more noise right there. more throatiness, maybe some howl...bark at the moon : )

Default Ya we def. did do some howling at the moon

The intake flap (or lack of) does make more noise with a heavy foot. But normal steady-state driving was too loud and I don't think it's because of the intake, because today the car seemed quiet as a mouse and I was really enjoying that for a change! Prolly last another day or so then it'll be back onto the creeper to defeat the muffler flaps again.

I've done 340 miles in a day with the MagnaFlow exhaust system without any annoyance at 65-75 mph.

Default you're probably right

it would be a different kind of noise, in any event.

Agreed, steady speed highway is fine. What happens w/ 3 passengers on hilly secondary roads?
