Has anyone actually had their dealer disable their rear side airbags?
I asked my dealer about it and they haven't done this before/haven't seen the TSB that someone mentioned here.
I have a 1 year old that rides in the rear (in his Recaro car seat) and from what I've read he'd be better off without the side airbags. His car seat isn't in the middle.
The Audi rep will be at my dealer tomorrow and I'd like to have some info if anyone has actually had theirs disabled.
TIA

I think the lawyers would never let them do that and have it on a work order
Unless it was switchable with the default to on..what if you had an adult back there on the other side and got T-boned? (heaven forbid)
How about pulling the plug on that particular side airbag and jumping it out with a 5ohm resistor like we do on the seat airbags to fool the system and keep the warning light out?
That way your other family members would still be fully protected also.

It is extremely simple and your dealer should know how to do it.
Or at least the should be able to look it up. The procedure is litle more than turning the bags off with the dealer version of VAG-COM and applying stickers to the rear inside doors warning the bags are off. I am pretty sure the Bentley Manual describes the procedure and I know that it supposed to be done once without charge for any vehicle equipped with rear side air bags and small children in the rear seats. If you have a Bentley, look it up and print the instructions for the dealer.
I just don't understand why it seems like the first words out of so many Audi SA's is, "that is normal" or, "we can't do that." The RS4 is a really good car but the service experience can be so frustrating.

When I worked at a dealer, we would do this. Just had the owner sign a waiver acknowledging
that the bags were switched off and that neither we nor AoA were responsible for injuries that might result from them being turned off.

I've tried that...
It just doesn't work very well in the middle - the RS4 rear seats are more formed than most, plus you can't Latch the seat in the middle (not that you absolutely have to use Latch).
