Default Headers for RS4?

Does anybody know of a company that offers headers for the B7 RS4? I've shopped around and it seems that the best thing out there is a 'piggie' downpipe from JHM.

The funny thing is that JHM offers longtube headers for the B7 S4, but NOT the RS4.

Maybe the better question here is: what's the difference between headers and downpipes? Will upgraded downpipes give significant performance/sound enhancement while coupled with a Milltek cat-back exhaust? Thanks for any feedback you may have.

Headers are the pipes that come directly off the engine. There a 4 pipes per side in a V8 engine. These join up at the collector which then connects to the downpipes which contain both catalytic converters. the downpipes then hook to the cat-back exhaust.

A optimized header design uses equal length tubes for each exhaust port so that the exhaust gas pulses never stack up onto each other. It thus favors a much better evacuation of exhaust gases. The RS4 headers I believe are already of an equal length design and as such there is no benefit to an aftermarket header (nor do I think anyone makes one). The header, aka exhaust manifold, on the S4 is quite different.

They look like a decent 4-into-2 design. Maybe you can gain some upper rpm power with longer and/or bigger primaries, but I'm guessing Quattro GhbH did their homework well.

JHM doesn't make the headers for the S4, VAST does.. JHM just re-brand most of the stuff they sell.

plus, you'd have to pull the engine out to replace the headers and the gains on the RS4 might not be worth it since they already have a decent design by factory.

the best thing is either downpipes or piggies.. personally i prefer downpipes (got mine from fast intentions) because it eliminates the empty hollow precats which eliminates turbulence from exhaust gases and they also have higher flow cats.. maybe 5HP more from downpipes and better sound than the piggies.

Wow. I had always thought 4 into 1. Wonder if there is room for improvement?

Hello! We just picked up a 2008 RS4 (white/white) to play with for the summer and will fabricate headers similar to those we manufacture for C63 AMGs as seen here, 4 into 1 design with high quality spun 316 merge collectors with matched ECU tuning that delivers 35HP/54lb/ft at the crank on US 93/98 RON:

Other things we may get into with the RS4 depending on demand, these are M156 castings/cams:

We presently have the Top 3 Q/F C63s on DragTimes.com, and expect to crest 700HP N/A (H/C, full exhaust, airboxes/filters, tuning, stock bottom end) in 2 weeks when we release our new custom billet cams. Then comes the requisite progressive 250 HP shot and finally a 7.0L Stroker with prog. 300 shot.

We look forward to bringing a new level of performance to the B7 RS4 platform, though we work with FI every day N/A high performance hardware/software are our passion.

Here are a few of our recent C63 accomplishments:

Keith Brantley’s Stage 3 C63, 11.24@124.32mph in the ¼ mile, and 180.73mph in the standing mile; for sake of comparison a Porsche Carrera GT went 178mph and two 2010 ZR1s went 179mph at the same Top Gun Run. World’s Quickest and Fastest C63 AMG 1/8th mile, ¼ mile, Standing Mile, 60-130 (8.46 seconds), 0-60 (3.35 seconds), 0-100 (7.75 seconds):

The only tune (v3 CDT)/DR only C63 to ever run 11s in the 1/4, also the world's fastest tune only C63 in the standing mile 172.1mph, Jim Barnhill:

Jeff Bertch’s MHP Stage 2 (with cats) C63 on the dyno for Turn 10, soon to appear as an add on car in Forza 3 for Xbox 360:

http://jalopnik.com/5478591/inside-f...yline=true&s=i

“The stock C63 is not a quiet car, but this one was absolutely insane — it was thick, crackly, and mean, as if the entire state of Alabama had been crossbred with a DTM car and an angry bull moose. Earplugs with a 20-decibel cut were not enough. Small children were sterilized. A week later, my ears still hurt. Caviezel called it "one of the best engine recordings I've ever heard."

Anyway, again we look forward to developing new parts and delivering highly potent software and packages in the very near future.

Mods/Admins please send me info on advertising/forum sponsorship.

Thanks

No editing of posts I guess? For sake of clarity the 35HP/54TQ gain was ECU only, and did not include our upcoming headers/mids.

Thanks
