headlight trouble...

So I lost the passenger DRL bulb a few days ago. Picked up 2 replacement bulbs. Mentally prepare of the hand contortions to get the bulb out. Discovered 2 curious/troubling things:
1) the city bulbs appear to have had a coating "melt" and have slightly discolored the mirror - impacted area is small but annoying and not fixable unless you are trying to see it. I presume these we're replacement bulbs form the PO - though I'm the second owner and have had the care since 2012...
2) the bigger issue - the insulation on the wiring in the headlight housing was all very very brittle - with pieces literally breaking off??? heat related? Anyone ever heard of this? seems like only solution is to remove housings and either replace or rewire.... but wiring harness seems integral to the housing and likely not easily replaceable.

Anyone see this? Anyone have a set of stock lamps from an e-code upgrade?

I'm in a similar boat. Tried to replace the city light in my right one and the insulation all came off. Which then caused a short. It's at my Indy who has told me that the entire unit needs to be replaced. Hopefully extended warranty will cover it. I'm surprised they don't make an internal harness replacement. Have you looked into these? According to ECS they are plug and play. But I can't find anyone out there that has installed these. Nor does anyone else make a light that says it's compatible with the AFS.

Same issue on headlights

After a general check I also found the wiring looms INSIDE both the headlights also totally stripped of insulation. All dry and cracked off, I assume from over heating.......lots of bare wires laying over each other. I looked for 6 months for a loom replacement (there isn't one) and then for a cheaper option than OEM to replace these, nothing available and so had to go back to audi for new headlight replacement. Not cheap.
