Default HELP! ..for no reason CEL came on while going 65 in 6th, no knocking noise or issues....

(roads were clear, temp was 18 dec, and the car was already warmed up) ...is this the dreaded carbon built-up on the valves?

...engine misfire?
...low temp issues?
...ecu/fuel/inj/FSI issues?

but cannot be at only at 15k now, and has had the car since fall 2006, oil changes on time, and no issues including no DRC grimlins ...so far.

Going to dealer ...any guesses?

...no I have not used any cheap gas, this girl always gets the expensive drinks!

Default My guesses: Kinked vacuum hose under intake manifold or stuck intake manifold flaps.

Did the EPC light come on?

Is there still a noticable change power around 5000-5500rpm?

If the car drives as normal I wouldn't stress too much about it. I drove around for several weeks with the CEL due to stuck intake manifold flaps. Top end was lacking, otheriwse everything was normal.

Default As long as the light is not flashing safe to drive. Get someone with a VAG-COM to read the codes

or do as you have said - take it to the dealer

no vag cable but agree it might be O2 sensor, winter gas and cold dense air
