Wheels? Has Stasis come through?

Bob W. 10-16-2007 10:25 PM

funny you should ask that, because my wheels just arrived this evening.

My first choice was the Stasis/Volk wheels, and I spoke with Jared (very cordial, BTW) about them. The only problem was that the wheels weren't in stock and it would take 4 weeks to get them. They quoted a price of $678 per wheel, which I think is very reasonable for a forged 1-piece in 19 x 9 size. But the time issue forced me to look for another option (keep in mind my car had been sitting in the garage for a week with 1 unrepairable flat, another tire with a sidewall bubble, and 2 or more bent wheels...out of commission).

Which brings me to my 2nd choice, which was the Neuspeed RS10. In the photos I looked at, the wheel looked VERY suspiciously similar to the Stasis wheel, and the specs are virtually identical (1-piece forged, 10-spoke, 19.9 lbs) EXCEPT the Neuspeeds are 19 x 8.5 in size and have a different offset. I called Neuspeed to see if they had an RS4-specific fitment, and they referred me to Eric at Supreme Power Parts. I gave him a call and we discussed options. He felt that the RS10 would fit with a 5mm spacer, and the wheels were in stock and could ship the next day. The price was $150 less per wheel than the Stasis wheels. So after a bit of hemming and hawing, I decided to go with the Neuspeed RS10. I chose Michelin PS2s for tires (stock size) and had Eric mount and balance them.

So they arrived in 2 huge boxes this evening, looking very spiffy. I got out my scale and weighed both the stock and RS10 wheels....stock wheel + Pirelli Rosso (almost to the wear bars) = 51.8 lbs. RS10 + PS2 = 46.0 lbs, so -5.8 lbs per wheel...not bad!

I mounted the RS10s, and to my surprise they fit perfectly without the spacers. I measured the wheel face in relation to the fender lip, and it's identical to the stock wheel. The thinner spokes of the RS10 make the brakes look HUGE. It's definitely a different look, and probably not for everyone...more conservative than stock, I would say. I need to wash the car before taking some pics, but I will post some eventually.

The biggest concern I had was going to the 8.5" width, but putting the wheels side-by-side with the stock wheels, there's no difference in tread width. I took some pics and will post them later.

yeah I saw that...sounds like they pinpointed the problem and resolved it, I hope.
