High Octane Gas
Anyone know where one can purchase high octane gas (94 or better) in the southern ct area?
do a search for 'race gas' in your area....some speed shops sell 100 and 104 octane.
plan on spending $5/gallon or more.
I've always been curious about using race gas..
is there anything that I have to worry about when using high octane gas in this engine?
wont do jack for you unless you have a chip that can take advantage of it...
stock ecu will run cherry but its programming is already optimized for the 91/93 octane world.
With a chip and switching it into a high octane mode, 100, 104 program it will run a software optimization for the better fuel. |
Use a 104 octane or below fuel which should also specify it is unleaded and you are fine.
Definitely not as much to gain but the stock ECU will pull back 6 degrees of timing or so...
under hard driving so the added octane will benefit, just not as much as if you had a race program.
as long as it's unleaded, no prob.
having said that, there wouldn't be much of a benefit to using race gas without also having the ECU tuning to exploit the higher octane.
Thanks...at least now I won't be tempted until I get my car chipped...
Buyer beware it also costs about $5.50 per gallon.
