Default how hard would it be to do a sunroof delete on our cars?

Not really using the sunroof and decided I could use the weight savings. How hard do you think this would be? What if I just replaced the whole roof, would that work? Does anyone make a CF roof for the RS4? Any ideas? Thanks.

Default It's a structual member - and the opening provides more strength than w/o

just some weight loss would occur - why not just go on a diet?

Default I think one relatively simple way to do it....

...would be to leave the roof structure as is, but remove the sunroof itself (along with the slide mechanism) and just replace the opening with a flat panel made of CF or Lexan or some other type of polycarbonate. The piece could even be painted to match.

The sunroof allegedly weighs 50lbs, but I don't know how much of that is the actual sunroof itself vs. additional steel framework in the roof structure.

I don't think I'd try to replace the whole roof....it would likely be cost prohibitive and a potential source of other problems (wind noise, leaks, rattling, etc.)

Default i heard the sunroof delete saves about 200 lbs. If thats not the case then I rather just

leave the thing in there and not have to deal with leaks and such.

Default lol, i dont weight that much already. Diet is not an option:) I figured it would be better without

a sunroof. I dont understand how the sunroof adds more rigidity to the car. It should technically add rigidity.

The supports for the sunroof add rigidity vs just having sheet metal

Default I've heard that too, but think about it....which is more believable, 50 or 200?

200 lbs is a LOT....to put that in perspective, the entire back seat (bench + fold downs) only weighs 75lbs.

Default Whatever the number, it raises the roll center/center of gravity, not that I

expect to be cornering at a rate where that will be noticeable. I just have no use for sunroofs, and the car is too heavy already, at 100 pounds above the B6S4.

But fast.

And very safe.

Default true...I think it would have to be part of a bigger picture to really be noticeable.

so lets say it's -50lbs for the sunroof delete...

lightweight battery is another -33lbs

getting rid of the tool kit, mats, books etc = -20lbs

aftermarket exhaust, probably -25lbs

lighter wheels, maybe -20 lbs total

so there's almost 150lbs without doing anything too radical. ditch the back seat and there's -225 lbs total. THAT would be significant, in terms of performance...both handling and acceleration.
