Default How important are the rear side impact air bags?

I have the option to take an RS4 off the lot, but it doesn't have the rear side impact airbags.

My S4 has this, but how important is this? I hardly have anyone sitting back there, but I always like knowing its there for those who are travelling with me.

There are still rear airbags in the back of the front seats facing the rear passengers right?

Those of you who ordered your cars, did you order w or w/o the rear airbags?

Default Not important because...

The back seat is too damn small for adults and the air bags are not recommended for children. The dealer can apparently turn them off if you have a car with the rear air bags and plan to have kids in the back seat.

Take the car on the lot and you can be driving a RS4 tomorrow.

Ok but if you have adults back there are the extra bags helpful?

Default It depends on your situation and personal preference.I am waiting for RSAB's.

I had to order mine to get the rear side air bags; Audi will start installing them in July. I was concerned about my kids and after doing some homework the word is good for adults and that it will not hurt the kids in the back. They are rear curtain side air bags and you can have the dealer turn them off if you were to choose so. There is no proof that they help the kids but there is also no proof that rear curtains will hurt them either. They are a different type of bag than the frontal altogether. It is said that they are very valuable in preventing ejection during a rollover. My wife will sometimes drive the car and I want as much protection between the rear passengers and whatever may hit the rear quarter pannel.

Default It is listed as STD and an Option?

*(Airbags
Airbags are supplemental restraints only and will not deploy under all accident circumstances. Always use safety belts and seat children only in the rear, using restraint systems appropriate for their size and age.)<ul><li><a href="http://www.audiusa.com/features_specifications/0,3523,bodyStyleId-18_contentType-27,00.html?bodystyle=rs4&amp;tab=options">http://www.audiusa.com/features_specifications/0,3523,bodyStyleId-18_contentType-27,00.html?bodystyle=rs4&amp;

Default CNN story on side bags

(Overall, side impacts are the second most deadly type of crash after frontal impacts. Side impact crashes killed 9,700 people in the year 2004. In new cars from model years later than 2000, 51 percent of driver deaths occur in cars struck from the side compared to 44 percent in cars struck from the front.)<ul><li><a href="http://www.cnn.com/2006/AUTOS/06/16/iihs_side_impact_sedans/index.html">http://www.cnn.com/2006/AUTOS/06/16/iihs_side_impact_sedans/index.html</a</li></ul>
