Why is it hot again?
I was all excited about the R8 but, to be honest, the spy photos aren't getting me all hot and bothered. I know the cars are covered in tape and plastic and stuff so I'm trying to discount that. But why would I want the R8 over, say, a 911TT?

That's a legit question and I can't answer it. Just wondering out loud how many
people here may be pursuaded to get an R8 when they finally come out. I think it's pretty intriguing considering the higher spec'd model will have the Lambo V10 engine and possibly 600hp(?). 0-62mph in 3.7 sounds pretty P-car TT performance to me :-P
Yeah I'm not sure about the design yet. I'll hold judgment until we see the real deal. Can't always rely on spy shots as you know.

No way. Fvck the R8. When the itch for a 2-door sports car needs to be scratched...
I'd sooner get a 997TT or 997 GT3 or many other better alternatives than the R8. I only like Audis when they're sedans or avants. Screw the R8... give me an RS4 avant and leave the mid-engined sports car making to the Italians. Speaking of which, if I really had to have a VAG mid-engined sportscar, I'd just go Der Kimbo's route and get an Gallardo SE and be done with it.

Maybe a better benchmark is the 997 Carrera 4S or Aston-Martin V8
I'm willing to let Lamborghini compete against the 997TT and GT2. In fact, a recent issue of AutoCar tested the 997TT against the Gallardo and Ferrari F430. Guess which car won the competition. In this camparison test, the Ferrari finished last despite having the most exotic cabin. The Porsche finished second and was said to feel "antiquated" next to the Lambo! In addition, real world acceleration was comparable, factoring out the fierce 0-30mph times of the 997TT. The new and improved Lamborghini Gallardo was considered an all-around better sportscar than the legendary Porsche Turbo.
The Audi R8 brings to the table the massive improvements of the latest Gallardo with a higher level of practicality and a lower price. Exotic looks and more than adequate performance indicates that Audi may make a dent in Porsche 911/997 sales.
