cheapest I can find is Sunoco for $5.56 a gallon sold at a 76 station. I've seen $7 for VP 100 octane, which seems pretty spendy.

How's she run on that stuff and what "proof" do you like (full-strength, 50:50, etc).
I've only seen 110-octane leaded stuff around here, so I'm stuck with decaf.

Can't be had here in town. I used Toluene to help tune the A4 which brought the cost of 100 Octane
to about $7.25 / US gallon. Mixed 1/3 Toluene which is 114 Octane with 2/3 Chevron 94 Octane. That's really not too bad considering premium fuel is about $4.60 / US gallon in Vancouver.
I used the mixture for 3 months before the pain (and risk) of the mixing got old. For long term use, you want to stay under 33% mixture and you need to add a couple ounces of ATF and Marvel Mystery Oil for cleansing and lubrication.
Is there any real value in going 100 Octane with the RS4 in stock form?

hmm... generally, 2 gallons is the most I've heard is safe to run with a full tank
beyond that, it starts to eat up seals and such. I assume you didn't run into any problems... or haven't yet?

30% max Toluene with precautions is a generally accepted safe limit. Like you say, it's really more
of a long term issue anyway. Adding the ATF and cleanser certainly helps.
I gradually increased my mixture to 100 Octane over three months in a quest to get the imfamous PC16 file to work right (varying fuel pressures too). It helped all right but even at 100 Octane, it would still pull timing with anything longer than a half hour normal drive and less than that if you were on the throttle. So I gave up and live with the timing pulls on 94 Octane.
No issues almost two years later. Actaully, I believe it ran better after the Toluene simply because the stuff does a pretty good job cleaning out carbon.

I remember your posts now. You were ahead of me in the PC16 curve. Should have listened to you and
avoided the pain! I considered the B5 S4 route seriously but in Canada, they hold their value (can't be imported from the US) so I just waited until the RS4 fell within my budget then brought one up!
