Default How to tell if rotors were damaged?

I'm about to hit 20K and I'm on the stock brake pads still. Last couple of weeks the brakes started to squeel pretty bad, I'm assuming this is the brake sensor (which doesn't work) scraping the rotors. I've got new pads arriving tomorrow I was going to swap in. How can I tell if the rotors been damaged?

Default Indirectly, look at the pads

If pad material remains, you are probably fine. If you are down to the metal backing, you are not. Brembos get noisy toward the end of pad life so I suspect you are fine. Also look for deep grooves and other significant surface irregularities on the rotors.

Squeel is OK, grinding is very bad. If you just heard squeeling, it is probably fine.
