I just de-flapped my airbox.
It's possible to do this by simply removing the airbox...no need to remove the bumper or anything like that. Beware that removing the airbox is not nearly as easy as it SHOULD be, but less involved than removing the bumper, ala the ELEVENS method.
Consult your Bentley manual for removal of the airbox. The flap is attached to a stubby horn piece at the bottom of the airbox. I removed the whole thing...horn, actuator, and flap...and plugged the vacuum hose. I would have left the horn, but I couldn't figure out how to get the FCUKING lower half of the airbox back into the engine bay with the horn attached...stupid cvnt sh1t goddamn fcuking turd lol. The flap mechanism looks pretty flimsy, to be honest. It doesn't even look like it ever completely closes shut. Someone should develop an intake box similar to the TTDA for the Mk1 TT, which is a phenolic, cool-wrapped filter box with an inlet for the OEM cold air feed (from the fender) and another inlet for a second air feed from the flap location behind the radiator. It's hard to believe no one can develop anything better than that crappy Hyperflow POS.
Anyhoo...the car seems to run just fine without the flap and that lame ass horn piece. In terms of sound, I think it's a bit throatier, but it's difficult to tell since I already have an aftermarket exhaust. Throttle response and top end seem solid as ever...no dramatic change. Ambient temp at the time of testing was 75 deg with 90% humidity....we'll see how she does at higher ambient temps.
BTW, this took me about an hour and a half total.
