Default I know that for the first 1500 miles, you arent supposed to drive over 4000rpm.

Why? Has anybody not followed it? What happens when it is followed, and when it isnt, or what happens if you go over 4k, but not much?

Default Not true... First 600 miles stay under 6,000. Next 600 stay under 7,000. By 1500 free to drive...

You should also keep it under 7,000rpm until the engine reaches 200F / 93C.

All this is in the manual...

Default If you go over 4000 rpms the engine goes BOOM!

NOT REALLY! When you follow the Audi's recommendations, you initially burn oil. For most it diminishes over time. For others, it does not. There are those who have not followed the recommendations, some burn oil, others don't. MY personal feelings and recommendations are not compatible with Audi's recommendations. Audi would prefer you break the car in easy so the engine(which are built very tight)does not break and that owners don't abuse the engine leading to a VERY EXPENSIVE engine replacement. Audi would prefer that you burn oil which they will say is "within the normal range". It costs them nothing if you burn oil. Big bucks if you blow an engine. My $.02. Many will not agree. BTW, if you do abuse the engine, a scan of the ECU will allow them to know so.

Default Not if Audi could show that you abused the car.

A scan of the ECU could give them the info.

Default Where did you get this info. It is wrong.

Under 6000rpm for first 600 miles
Under 7000rpm for first 1200 miles
Gradually increase to redline from 1200-1500 miles
Go like a bat out of hell after 1500 miles

Default Funny. The GM and Head of Service of the dealership I just bought my RS4 from

yesterday specifically told me to "drive it like I stole it". I said, but what about break-in and they said it doesn't matter. I'm still going to follow the break-in, but, rest assured, you are safe if you accidentally miss a down shift.

Default I think it really depends on what kind of clout your dealership has and what kind

of relationship you have with your dealer. As mentioned I spoke to the head of Service and the GM (they came over to thank/congratulate me) and they told me to get out there and "drive it like I stole it"...I mentioned break-in they laughed. Told them a story of a buddy whe blew his E46 M3 engine and didn't follow break-in (downloaded ECU history) and they wouldn't cover the engine under warranty. They responded with: "Well that's BMW, this is Audi" and if that happens just come back and see us and we will take care of it. FWIW.

Quick Reply: I know that for the first 1500 miles, you arent supposed to drive over 4000rpm.
