I know it's been discussed - 911 S or RS4 - need advise
I've had a 2001 S4 for 6 years - was modded for awhile and fairly stock now.
Current car stable:
2001 S4
2004 Lexus LX470
1993 Landcruiser (offroading - home depot beater)
Personal status: wife and 2 kids; 5 & 2 year old.
If you are in a similar situation with wife and kids - let me know your thoughts on 911s or RS4. I'm going to keep my S4 - no reason to get rid of it and definitely keep the 1993 Landcruiser. Might get rid of the LX470 - wife can drive the S4.
911s and RS4 seems be the best cars out there in this segment - don't want to spend over 85k; so no M5, M6, or AMG etc.
Thought about the S6 - but, I rather have RS4.
Thoughts?

Completely different cars, but I say go for the p-car....
You have the S4 so you already have a fast AWD sedan. A p-car is nothing like anything you own. Rear wheel drive, coupe, very very raw and extremely sharp handling. You will NOT regret it! I've had mine for 2+ years and still can't wipe the smile off my face (and thats coming from a guy with extreme car ADD).

I say RS4. I have driven a 996 Turbo and a C5 RS6 back to back and would go with the RS6 everytime
because it feels just as fast and is so much more practical. Go with the RS4 as it is as fast as the Porsche handles almost as good and can fit your family. Porsches are not practical imho.

Get the RS4...here's why......
You have two kids aged 2 & 5. So....if you were to buy the Porsche, you wouldn't be able to drive your really fun car any time you need to do something with the kids, which, believe me, will start to become a significant amount of time very soon. Activites, sports, lessons, etc. will all be there.
Let me share with you a recent Saturday....
Packed up my two daughters and all their soccer and swim gear into the RS4. Took them to soccer practice and dropped them off. Took the long scenic route on the way to the supermarket to have some fun in the RS4. Picked up groceries. Went back and picked up girls from practice with all their stuff. Dropped girls off at friend's house to go swimming in their pool. Had a fun ride back home. Later that day, had to go pick up girls. Again, had a fun ride on the way up. Drove home with girls in a little more responsible manner.
You couldn't do this sort of thing with the Porsche. It would be sitting all day on that beautiful Saturday in your garage while you did 60 miles of driving in your less fun vehicle.

I had/have a similar situation and opted for the RS4
We also have my 2001 S4 avant and a Volvo XC90, and now that the RS4 is here my wife wants the avant to go - fearing that our 15 your old motorhead son would consider it "his" and kill himself. It pains me to let it go, but she is right (as usual. She refuses to drive it and is happy to drive the RS4, but only "occasionally". Best of luck!
PS the RS4 is better than you could possibly expect!

treat yourself to the P
Get the P car. I am days away from trading my 997C2S for an RS4 as we are about to have a child. The RS4 is awsome, and probably best in it's class, but it is no Porsche. If you can get a lightly used 997S I am sure you will luv the drive. If you are hauling kids around can't beat the Audi. PM me if you have questions.

Completely agree & I've always wanted a 911. Not practical for my family use for now...
Now I'm just waiting until they are driving themselves or they go off to college.

Sounds like you have plenty of family haulers... get the 911
If I could afford to have kept my 911 and RS4, I would have. The 911 is a car everyone should have the joy of owning at some point.
