Maybe your holding it too long? I thought it was only 3-5 seconds?

Default Must be a different exchange rate for seconds in Australia
Seriously, if I press the button, count to 10, and release, the esp light stays solid.

Default I don't de-activate my ESP often enough to know, so I guess something is wrong with his car...

Yup...Hold it too long and it disables the button until the next ignition cycle.

If the light is already flashing when you try to completely disable ESP, it won't work.
