I love the way the RS4 looks, sounds, engineering, interior, exterior, etc. But since it has 4 doors... doesnt that almost by definition indicate that it is made to be a daily driver? If so, why not offer an auto/semi-auto type tranny to deal with rush hour traffic? I guess the fact that it is only offered in stick doesnt make much sense to me in a 4-door. I love a manual gearbox, and for my 98 Carrera S or any other sports car, wouldnt have it any other way.
As I search for a daily driver, I want the RS4 but might end up with the M5 as a second choice. I just cant imagine the in and out abuse on the clutch and tranny here in TX from driving the RS4 in occasional rush hour/100 degree TX heat.
For anyone that uses this car as a daily driver, how is the shifting under those circumstances? Has anyone been faced with this same dilemna?

merc
i thought about that as a possible solution, but hate the idea of buying something based on magazine hype only, plus it wont be here until April next year...
my previous experience with AMG has always been that they are very torquey and fast in a straight line, but otherwise not much fun to drive

SMG=****ty manual gearbox
Had an M3...SMG left me stranded twice. Never again.
I will not buy ANY car that uses any form of simulated manual gearbox. They suck, they never work properly, mechanical failures abound and I can't imagine the cost to repair when after the warranty expires.
I use my RS4 as a daily driver in So Calif. No issues, fairly light clutch but if you're REALLY sitting in dead stop, bumper to bumper traffic, a stick is probably not your best option.

right - i am not always in rush hour, but....
when i am, it is definitely bumper to bumper standstill, and i just cant imagine paying $70k+ for a 4-door car that would need to have that kind of in/out on the clutch and gearbox
