I'm spending about 10 days there with the wifey for a little vacation. I've done France, Italy, and Great Britain, but I've never been to anywhere in Germany before.

Rent a car in Munich and then drive the German Alps... it's the best
Some of the most picturesque roads (and the road quality is SOOO good). Do some research on the alpine road, it was built to showcase the awesome beauty of southern germany. I did the whole route and went even further west to the black forest. Honestly one of my favorite vacations, some great places to stop and hike too.
Let me know if you want to see a few pics.
I had a E-class mercedes CDI220 (diesel) and even with that big slow lug the roads were fun to drive.

Ingolstadt...
Contact the people over at the Audi Forum there and ask about the Audi Drivers Day. You can arrange for any car Audi makes (except for the R8) and they also have hotel, meal packages.

List of 5 things you nust do..
1)Check for public days on the ring. Fall is better. If the weather is bad, the ring is dead. Last Feb. I went with friends. Crappy weather, great track day. We rented RS4 Avant and a 911S in Frankfurt from Avis.
2) Got to Pfaffenhausen (check spelling!) Ruf is there. It rocks! call ahead and bring the receptionist (Claudia Muller) pancake batter and syrup. She can't get it in Germany and she aquired a taste for it in Canada. Great people. You must call and schedule with Marc Bongers. He is has a book published called "Porsche and Ruf - Sportscars". Great book, pick it up there and he will sign it. The tour is very personal and very neat. You will see cars that are unbeleivable!! I cant say enough about Ruf. Also, they have great driving shoes for sale. Lots of SWAG.
3)Audi tour at Neckarsum (spelling?) and Ingolstadt is great. The museum in Ingolstadt is very cool.
4)Merc museum in Stuttgart is kick ***. It is a day tour that is worth it.
5) Porsche museum in Stuttgart is small, but very cool. Call ahead and schedule a factory tour. You must do this to gain access. Without this they won't allow you past the gate. Watching the RS and GT3 leave for testing is amazing!!
6)Mountian passes in Bavaria and Austria (Zell um See, etc). They are not always open in the fall. I would stick with high speed autobahn runs. South of Stuttgart (on the way to Lindau) and North near the Hokenheim ring are some great unlimited roads.
Have fun, and drive really fast. My last trip we did 182mph in a 911S with three people and a small amount of luggage.
Also, the Porsche museum in Gmund is very cool! Great day drive from Munich!
