Intake valve removal, what's the latest?

Give me a good reason or reasons why I should not remove intake valve...

You might scratch the paint, break a bolt, lose a fastener, strain your back, get your hands dirty.

Seriously, based upon what we currently know, the only reasons NOT to remove the flap are 1) you live in a hellish climate and most of your driving is in stop-and-go traffic jams, 2) Audi or an aftermarket ECU reprogram addresses the lazy-flap problem.

As you prob know, mine's been off for a few months now and it's great. No worries about lost power, and the intake noise is noticable but never over bearing or undesirable. For me, it (almost) eliminated the desire for a noisy exhaust. You'll learn a ton about your engine compartment with that bumper off.

While the bumper is off, might as well do the clear-corner mod at the same time.

Cheers!

Can you elaborate on the hellish climate comment...

I live in south florida, temp guage constantly reading over 90 during daytime driving. Would you suggest removal or not?

Do your indicator lights still flash orange?

Seeing as the orage part is removed is the light that comes out still orange, or white. I think it looks really cool with the orange part out, if I had one I would want to do the same thing. Was it hard to do?

I think all Audis look better without the orange part in the headlights, do you agree, the A4/S4/RS 4 are the only ones with the orange part arn't they?

Good that the new A4 comes standard without the orange parts.

geez, i hope none of those things happened...

did you really have to remove the bumper to get at that part of the airbox?

onrails 08-28-2007 07:18 AM

unfortunately ELEVENS is correctomundo...

cracked open airbox to inspect what the job takes, and quickly put it back together after I figured out it is near impossible to do from topside... what's the secret to pulling bumper? Elevens, can you elaborate please?

daveak05 08-28-2007 07:31 AM

then yes, unfortunate...

and people were complaining about having to remove bumper to replace a timing belt tensioner : )

The flap draws hot air from an underhood area behind the right aux. radiator.

...and opens at RPM's greater than 5500 and/or speeds >200kmph. Under those conditions, there's likely plenty of air movement. But in "hellish climates" and the car stopped in traffic, it will pull very hot air and your car might run pretty sluggishly. Or not... dunno. The hottest it gets around here is an occasional 90F.

Yes, with the correct invisbulb. Some guys spray paint an orange bulb...

...with silver paint but I don't recommend it. They were pretty dim when I tried it, and the last thing you want is to compromise visibility. Good bright aftermarket silver bulbs that light orange are very inexpensive.

Have fun.

Sounds Like a no go for me...
