It's final decision time -- RS4 vs. 996tt vs. 997S
There is a Daytona Grey (the color I want) RS4 that just arrived at my local dealer. It's time to make a decision... I have been putting off for a couple months. Thanks for previous help/responses.
My budget = less than $80k
Options =
1)new RS4 $73k
2)2003 996tt X50 w/ 1500 miles (not a typo) $80k
3)2006 Carrera S w/ 5000 miles $75k
I have driven all three, and as expected, they are fun in different ways. I have historically always owned a Porsche and a second beater car (currently Toyota). I am thinking that the RS4 is a good way to combine the practicality of daily driver with fun car. However, these Porsches are really in showroom condition and have seen a lot of their depreciation already.
While I do want a backseat, only for small kids, so any of these cars are ok for me in that sense.
Just curious to get your opinions or especially if there are others that came from Porsches.

996tt or RS4....
996tt if you can handle $4000-5000 the first time it needs some kind of pump or something.
RS4 otherwise if you want to drive it without worry and no significant financial liability.
Also price out the insurance.
A lesson I learned a while ago with a BMW 750iL, is that even if it depreciates to $27000, repairs still cost like it was $85000.
But a 997tt would be great, I'm sure.

996tt > RS4 > 997S
Especially if you have another car the 996tt X50 is a clear winner.
I came from a 996 C4S and I love the RS4, more practical but just as fun. Thats why I'd pick the RS4 over a 997S(even though its a gorgeous car).
The TT is just too hard to resist in my book though, especially with such low miles and the X50.

I've been seeing RS4's lately...sort of missing mine, but...the reality...
it that for the driving that I do, it was not ultimately a great car for me. I miss the directional headlights, the engine, the rock solid build... I would not even consider owning one without ditching the DRC...
The Stasis/Ohlins Motorsport coilovers MADE the car. The exhaust was nice, but with the exhaust and the software...the thing was maybe too much of an animal. It was a bit too loud, and that was with resonators, and wanted to go faster than I can go..and not lose my license. I like cars that feel 'fun' at semi legal speeds. The RS4 motor doesn't really get going until your way down the road at missle speeds. Fine for you maybe, not for me. The car is also a bit heavy in the front. Given all that, I still lust for one occasionally!
I had an X-51 997S that was a blast, but P cars tend to be an image I ultimately don't want. I think it's different in Europe. Here, it's more of a stigma....maybe it's just because of where I live...you don't see many of them.
I have driven the 996tt S model, and liked it, but the interior is not as nice as the 997, and I think the RS4 interior is nicer than the 997.
RS4 is a sweet choice.

for pure driving thrill
get the 997S....I own an RS4, previously owned a 997s and have driven many miles on the 996TT. The 997C2S is the best driving car of the three if backseat and passenger comfort are secondary concerns. My 2 cents.

i went through a similar decision process...RS4.
keep in mind, small kids tend to get larger with the passing of time.
what options does the 997S have? only way I would consider it would be if it had comparable options to the RS4...and definitely has to have the full leather interior, that's a must on any 911, IMHO.

An Audi will get you through times of no Porsche
better than a Porsche will get you through times of no Audi.
My version of the old saying...
So I would vote for the Audi.
